Nate was a pilot for halloween, his latest is that he wants to wear this hat on our next plane trip, if that doesn't get us a tour of the cockpit, nothing will.
Well, it is pretty obvious, but for those who can't get the pictures, Engie is a pumpkin--she is fat and round and cute (of course her mother thinks so)

2006 Highlights
- Engelina (Engie) Anne--named after Kevin’s grandma Wisselink, joined our family on March 3.
- Nate is in Preschool at Ada Elementary and gets to TAKE THE BUS!
- Kevin went to South Korea to visit his brother Armin and met up with his brother Brian, what an amazing trip!
- I had a baby (refer to above, ha ha) and started a new job.
This Gist
Engie reminds me eerily of myself, by looks and nature. She is now 9 months and into everything and to make our lives interesting she never sleeps through the night. She is a big hit with the cousins and her 2 year old cousin Nick, often requests to “hold it!” Nate is a very dear older brother, often being a good little “daddy” for her wiping her face, bringing extra toys--also too often taking them away as well.
Nate is now a talking, opinionated, energetic 4 year old who loves airplanes, I mean LOVES airplanes. He reminds everyone eerily of Kevin. He introduced Nace to our family, a pretend friend, who is apparently an older baby who Nate met at a restaurant or the airport. Funny how that works.
Kevin started working in The Rapid, the local transit authority in Grand Rapids in 2005. He works with some friends and also GETS to take classes to towards his Masters in Public Administration. While it is a blessing to work towards furthering his degree, it also a challenge and keeps us busy. When he has a chance, he loves to listen to music, watch/listen/obsess about the Canucks, play games with friends and read.
I quit working at Arbor Circle near the end of last year to try to slow down and prepare for Engie's birth and arrival. In July I started at Pine Rest doing assessments for admission to Psychiatric Hospitalizations, evenings and weekends. I have learned for me, getting out of the house a couple days a week helps me keep balanced. In my spare time I enjoy knitting, reading, catching up with friends and drinking a warm cup of coffee.

When we asked Nate if his pretend friend “Nace” was real or pretend as he was coming up a lot in conversation Nate replied, after contemplating the question, “Well, he just isn’t much of a talker.” Oh, now it all makes sense.
When Jaden (Nate's 4-year-old cousin on the Van Weelden side) asked Nate what his Grandma and Grampa Wisselink were like, Nate thought about it and solidly retorted "brown." If you don't get it, we don't either, but thought it was quite funny...they are not really all that brown...
Engie: "da da da", we also think she once said "clap".
We know this year, as in every year, people who are close to us experience loss, big life changes and also celebrate joys. We know that our God is Near; celebrating and grieving with us.
